So that was the lock down, or a Thats what I do I ride I drink I hate people and I know things shirt correct term to use would be social distancing. During the last third week, everything was gradually adjusting back to normal, mostly because people felt the risk was lower. Life went on not as unusual as we might have expected. We were not bound to stay home all the time but there was nothing to go out to anyway. I worked from home and went out only for food. Now I am not sure how strict the lockdown in Korea was, though I believed they did a good job and also had more resources than Vietnam. There are two reasons why the lockdown in Vietnam seems more full-on than Korea (though I am not sure about this; we did exactly what other countries are doing): 1. Korea had the capability to do pool-testing, which means they could test a large number of people for the virus and quickly contain the virus in these regions. Vietnam tested a lot but could only do it with the suspects, who had contacts with a confirmed case or with anyone that had contact with a case (one confirm case leads to five classes of suspects). This means Vietnam’s tactic heavily depended on restricting the contact with the virus. It was critical, then, to do a lockdown to make sure all the current cases could not spread any further. 2. Vietnam’s economy cannot afford a major shock had the pandemic gone further. It was critical to contain it as soon as possible.

If you read or study the Thats what I do I ride I drink I hate people and I know things shirt war now and take no sides of it, you will see that every time the North will overrun a town or hamlet, the South (read US + ARVN) will retake it, with losses more on the VC side. So, the ARVN+US ought to be the winners if I will do the scoring by the numbers. It was even seriously considered that the ground war be brought to the North, and destroy it (they settled for bombing, which is less effective). Modern machines, bombs and Guns that spewed death were used, not to say of bombs that incinerate trees! On the basis of lead poured, gas spent, enemy killed and battles won, the US+ARVN was the winner, let us concede. But victory is not so that easy. War is not just mathematics and machines and soldiers, it needs people. So the simple Asian math of Uncle Ho was correct (you kill ten of my men, I kill one of your men, you lose) because the people of the North supported him because, what to do? As time goes, the US got wearied of the war. In the first place the US need not be involved in that war. They are supposed to be Advisers Only. In an unconventional internal war of massive armory in one side and people’s support on the other side, it is the latter that will prevail. That is one lesson.

The term veteran is oft debated, some say anyone who served even a day in the service is a Thats what I do I ride I drink I hate people and I know things shirt while others hold that only those who completes a full term of enlistment or appointment qualifies for that Thats what I do I ride I drink I hate people and I know things shirt. The reality is there is no universally accepted definition of what qualified as being a veteran. For example, the VA can convey veterans benefits for a service connected disability to someone injured while still in training, but that person isn’t eligible to join some veterans groups. At the same time, someone can be eligible to join the American Legion but not be enThats what I do I ride I drink I hate people and I know things shirtd to any VA benefits. The principal difference between the National Guard and the Reserves is that the federal government is in charge of the Reserves, while the National Guard units predominately belong to individual states. There are two National Guard types: the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard. National Guard members attend basic training and military job school full time under ADT (active duty for training), similar to the Reserves.

The Third goal was to stop the Thats what I do I ride I drink I hate people and I know things shirt of troops and supplies down the trail and thus defeat North Vietnam’s aggression. This tactic failed because US sentiment would not tolerate an expansion of the war into Cambodia and Laos on a permanent basis, even though communism was expanding in a Domino Theory fashion into these countries, as well. President Nixon understood that the USA could not win this limited war. The final goal was to get out of Vietnam with some dignity. Nixon created Vietnamization, which used a facade of propaganda alleging that South Vietnam was strong enough to conduct a war on their own. The Vietnam war ended for the USA in April of 1975. The south collapsed shortly thereafter. In the beginning the USA wanted to stem the advancement of Communism. In the end, they just wanted out. The Chinese occupied Vietnam for 1000 years only to be cast off by the farmer -warriors of Vietnam. The French were repelled in less than 100 years. The USA barley lasted 20 years. Since then Vietnam has undergone many political and economic changes. They have emerged as a stable economic and political force in Southeast Asia. The USSR fell apart and collapsed. Much of this started with them spending way too much on military expansion – the domino theory. In that sense, the USA got what it wanted; the collapse of the Soviet Union.
